                         CRITICAL READING

A. Evaluating Web Sites

1. Does the writer identify himself/herself? Is he/she qualified to write about this topic?

2.  Does the web site belong to an organization that you have heard of?

3. What is the apparent purpose of the web site?

4.  Is the information based on reliable, outside sources or the writer's opinions?

5.  Is this an open-source web site like Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia? If it is, anyone can contribute to it, so you should check the information in other sources.

When you are looking for information about a topic on the Web, you may first have to choose among the many sites listed on Google or another search engine Look for the following clues:

1. The name or an abbreviation for an organization that you have heard of.

2.  Any indication that it might belong to an organization.

3. A person's name, personal information, or the word "blog"—all of which might indicate that it is a web log or journal created by an individual who wants to express opinions and share experiences with others on the Web.

4. Where the site appears on the list of search results. 

B. Critical reading is more active way of reading

1. It is a deeper and more complex engagement with a text

2. Critical reading is aprocess of analyzing,interpreting and sometimes, evaluating.

3. When we read critically, we use  our critical thinking skills to Question both the text and our own reading of it.

C. Characteristic  features of critical reading?

1. Examine the evidence or arguments presented

2. Check out any infuence on the evidence or arguments

3. Check out the limitations or study design or focus

4. Examine the interpretations madeDecide  to what extent  you re prepared to accept author’s arguments,opinions or conclusions.
